As we approach the finale of Landman Season 1, the recent episode has delivered a staggering revelation that risks the fate of a critical character. Be warned: spoilers lie ahead!
This season leaves several plot threads unresolved. Tommy is still grappling with cartel issues, Cooper has just embarked on acquiring his own oil leases, and Ainsley and Angela are orchestrating an elaborate bash for a local seniors’ home.
Amidst this backdrop, Monty Miller, portrayed by Jon Hamm, faces significant turmoil. His character has served as both a guiding ally and a source of intense pressure for landman Tommy. As the tension escalates, so does Monty’s own escalating stress levels.
The Dire Predicament of Monty Miller
Episode 8 marks a turning point for Monty, culminating in his fifth heart attack. While he endures through Episode 9, the closing moments suggest a shocking and potentially tragic outcome.
At the end of the newest Landman episode, viewers witness Monty having another heart attack while in hospital. Although he calls for help from his room, nobody turns up. In the final moments, Tommy then gets a call from Cami, Monty’s wife.
The conversation between Tommy and Cami remains ambiguous, but Tommy’s troubled expression indicates the distressing possibility that Monty may have passed away.
Although this development is not entirely unexpected—given Monty’s admission of undergoing multiple bypass surgeries—the cliffhanger prompts several inquiries: Is Monty truly gone? What future awaits Tommy if Monty does not survive?
Fans are divided on Monty’s fate. One Reddit user expressed optimism, stating, “Oh, I hope they didn’t kill off Monty. I always enjoy watching John Hamm in any role he plays. Maybe he’s just in a coma. I wonder if BBT will become acting CEO while Monty is in a coma. Then, he could fire Rebecca!”
In contrast, another fan voiced skepticism about Monty’s survival, stating, “I don’t think he’s dead. Because if he is dead, Tommy is f**ked. The Cartel is afraid of the rich billionaires like Monty but not Tommy.”
Nevertheless, opinions lean towards a grim conclusion. One user remarked, “Dead. They shot the coyote, remember? I think we’re going to see Cami take over and just revert between Rebecca and Tommy the whole time.”
Another viewer echoed this sentiment, asserting, “Definitely dead. I think he’s dead. In the trailer from the beginning of the season, Demi says to BBT ‘you wanna roll the dice one last time.’ It looks like they are standing by headstones.”
All questions will be addressed in the upcoming Landman finale, set to air on Sunday, January 12.
