On May 19th, the BBC aired a documentary called “Burning Sun: The Untold Truth of the K-pop Stars’ Group Chat Room” , which exposed the stories of the women who brought the scandal to light.
During her coverage of the Burning Sun Scandal, reporter Kang Kyung-yoon discovered that the group chat messages indicated a strong connection between Seungri, Jung Joo-young, and a senior police official. As a result, she made efforts to uncover the identity of the aforementioned police officer.
Kang, the reporter, mentioned, “The identity of the police in their Kakaotalk group chat room was a mystery I couldn’t unravel and the key clue. Then, suddenly, Goo Ha-ra appeared and provided the solution.”
Reflecting on the past, journalist Kang recalled, “I distinctly remember that day. Goo Ha-ra confided in me, expressing her desire to assist. I was filled with gratitude. Goo Ha-ra had a close relationship with Choi Jong-hoon since her debut, and she also knew Seungri and Jung Joon-young to some extent. As they were all friends, the late singer had witnessed them frequently using their cell phones. She remarked, ‘There’s a lot of suspicious things on there. You’re absolutely right, reporter Kang.’ To be honest, I was unsure of how she could be of assistance, so I asked, ‘
Goo Ha-ra’s older brother, Goo Ho-in, revealed that his sister and Choi Jong-hoon had been close friends since their trainee days. According to him, Ha-ra had encouraged Choi Jong-hoon to speak to the reporter and share all the information he knew. Goo Ho-in overheard this conversation between Ha-ra and Choi Jong-hoon while he was next to her. Ha-ra had assured Choi Jong-hoon that she would support him and urged him to be honest with the reporter.
Thanks to the help of the late Goo Ha-ra, reporter Kang was able to contact Choi Jong-hoon and inquire about the identity of the police mentioned in their messages. Choi Jong-hoon responded, “I believe they have connections to a high-ranking police officer. We have played golf together before and I have heard that they are now working at the Blue House. They used to be a police officer.”
