Late Kim Soo-mi’s Last Diary Entry Exposes Struggles with Pronunciation and Tremors While Eating

In the March 25th episode of TV Chosun’s “With Father and Me“, actress Seo Hyo-rim, along with her husband Jung Myung-ho, took a poignant moment to remember the late Kim Soo-mi, who had passed away five months earlier.

Seo Hyo-rim appeared visibly emotional and thinner. She expressed her feelings by saying, “I feel like I’ve crossed a line, and what I’m experiencing now is just ‘difficult’.Her departure was so abrupt that I couldn’t even process the pain at first. It still feels unreal. Each day is filled with so many regrets.”

With tears in her eyes, Hyo-rim added, “Initially, I thought this experience was ours to bear alone, but witnessing the collective mourning from everyone revealed just how truly remarkable she was to all of us.”

During the funeral service of Kim Soo-mi, Seo Hyo-rim was seen overtaken by grief. She reflected, “This loss feels like more than just that of a mother-in-law; it’s akin to losing a dear friend. Our bond was like that of close companions even before she became my mother-in-law. She provided wisdom and support, often stirring emotions in me when I encountered reminders of her, whether it was a meal or a song she cherished.”

Her husband, Jung Myung-ho, son of Kim Soo-mi, was seen managing the funeral arrangements with quiet strength. He recounted, “I anticipated that Hyo-rim would experience far greater heartbreak than I, prompting me to maintain my composure. However, it wasn’t until I returned home that the tears streamed down uncontrollably. It was a release I had never experienced before. I’m not sure if I’m functioning or merely surviving.”

Jung Myung-ho vividly recalled the day of Kim Soo-mi’s passing, sharing that early that morning, he received a call from his father expressing concern about her health, urging him to come quickly. Upon his arrival, he found her collapsed next to her bed; her body was cold to the touch, and emergency services indicated it was likely cardiac arrest.

Seo Hyo-rim offered insight into Kim Soo-mi’s struggles, confessing, “I believe she carried many burdens and faced significant stress. I regret not having been a better daughter-in-law and wish I had done more for her.”

As the couple began going through Kim Soo-mi’s possessions, they discovered numerous trophies, lottery tickets, and bank statements. The extensive lottery collection amused panelists, who playfully suggested it could be displayed in a museum. Seo Hyo-rim shared, “We actually received a proposal to do that.”

For the first time, Kim Soo-mi’s personal diary was unveiled, revealing heartfelt entries about her son, Jung Myung-ho. Seo Hyo-rim remarked, “Reading her diary was life-changing for me. It opened my eyes and made me empathize deeply with my husband; almost all the entries were about him, and she wrote with such beauty.”

Jung Myung-ho, while watching clips of his mother’s performances, was visibly moved. He shared, “The sorrow is profound, but my regrets weigh heavily. I think of her every single day, and she often mentioned missing her own mother. I yearn for her presence and just want her to hold me; it’s been incredibly challenging lately.”

Seeing her husband in such distress, Seo Hyo-rim noted, “That day was the first time I witnessed him crying since our marriage. He sobbed openly at the funeral. When I inquired how he managed to keep it together until then, he expressed that as the eldest son, he felt a responsibility to remain strong for everyone’s sake.”

The couple prepared a special dish of braised kimchi using Kim Soo-mi’s last batch of homemade kimchi while sharing a meal with Kim Soo-mi’s dear friend, Kim Young-ok. Seo Hyo-rim expressed, “I never had the opportunity to cook for my mother-in-law because she preferred to do it herself. Cooking for Kim Young-ok felt like a way to honor her memory.”

Kim Soo-mi had concealed her diabetes diagnosis from her family. As Kim Young-ok read excerpts from the poignant diary, she succumbed to tears. One of Kim Soo-mi’s final entries poignantly articulated her struggles, saying “I must stop taking my medications, thinking only of my grandson. Lord, please help me. My speech is slurred, and I spill food; my hands shake when I eat, ” deepening the emotional impact of her hidden battles.
