Exciting developments in the film industry, as a new live-action movie series based on Lord of the Rings is in the works, with the initial release planned for 2026. The focus of this series will be the comeback of a beloved antagonist.
During an earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealed that Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens will be producing the project.
Despite being in the early stages of development and lacking a title, everything changed when the studio released a press release later this morning.
The upcoming film, titled Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, will center on Andy Serkis’s portrayal of Gollum.
Despite Serkis’ return to the role, he is also set to take on the role of director. Additionally, Walsh, Boyens, and Jackson, who were integral to the success of the original film trilogy and the Hobbit films, will continue to be involved in every aspect of the project.
This reaffirms previous statements that the new set of films will not simply be a reboot of the original LotR trilogy, but will instead delve into untold storylines from J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy book series.
