The launch of the Black Ops 6 version of Warzone at the beginning of Season 1 introduced the XM4 as the dominant Assault Rifle (AR) in the game. However, recent updates from Raven Software have stirred the competitive landscape.
In the Season 2 update, significant adjustments were made to the XM4, notably reducing its damage range. Additionally, the 100 Round Magazine imposed a greater penalty on aim-down sight speed, and the recoil benefits provided by the Buffer Stock were diminished.
Despite these modifications, the XM4 continued to excel in long-range engagements. In response to its resilience, Raven Software executed another round of nerfs, targeting both the AR’s damage metrics and the Buffer Stock’s efficacy once more.
The Rise of the AK-74 in Warzone Season 2

According to analysis from TrueGameData, comparisons of time-to-kill (TTK) statistics reveal the AK-74 as a frontrunner, especially in engagements occurring within 58 meters. The AK-74 achieves a remarkable TTK of 736 milliseconds, making it the fastest among the assessed ARs, which also include the Cypher 091, XM4, Model L, and Ames 85.
Although the Cypher 091 presents strong performance with a TTK of 749 milliseconds, its efficiency diminishes sharply beyond 40 meters, highlighting its limitations. Conversely, the XM4 lags significantly behind, clocking in at 825 milliseconds, a disparity that underscores the AK-74’s superior lethality.
While TTK is a critical statistic assessing a weapon’s effectiveness, it’s important to consider other factors. Quick eliminations can afford players valuable breathing room for mistakes during a firefight, enabling them to prevail even when not every shot lands perfectly.
Notably, recent updates in Season 2 extended the AK-74’s damage ranges across maximum, medium, and minimum tiers. Improvements to its aim-down sight and sprint-to-fire speeds further enhance its versatility in combat scenarios.
Despite its power, the AK-74 does come with its challenges, particularly concerning its recoil pattern, which can be tricky to master even with various attachments. Nonetheless, the weapon’s unmatched capability to dismantle foes cannot be overlooked, solidifying its place as a formidable contender in Warzone’s evolving metagame.
