Lazarus Anime Confirms 2025 Release Date at San Diego Comic-Con

On Friday, July 26, 2024, during the San Diego Comic-Con panel for Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty anime series, it was announced that the original television Lazarus anime series will debut in 2025. However, apart from this release window for the 2025 calendar year, not much other information about the series was disclosed at the panel.

This update on the Lazarus anime serves as an update to the previously announced estimated release window. When the series was initially announced, the staff had set a goal to finish the project by 2024. However, based on the latest news regarding its release window, it is clear that this goal was not achievable. Nevertheless, this news is reassuring as it shows that the series is not being rushed in any way.

Lazarus Anime Announces 2025 Release Window with No Additional Details or Promotional Material

Despite the disappointment of not having any promotional material to accompany the announcement of the 2025 release window for the Lazarus anime, fans can anticipate the release of more material towards the end of 2024. It is likely that this next round of promotional material will specify a particular anime season in 2025, and possibly even a specific month and date.

At the time of writing this article, fans have access to limited promotional material for the series. This includes the series’ logo visual and a 90-second announcement trailer. However, Adult Swim has provided a brief story description, confirming that the anime will be set in the year 2052 and have a sci-fi influenced plot and setting.

Fans have also received official staff information for the anime, revealing that MAPPA Studios will be handling animation and that Shinichiro Watanabe, renowned for directing Cowboy Bebop, will be at the helm. Additionally, Chad Stahleski, widely recognized for his work on the John Wick films, has been confirmed as the action director. The series has also been confirmed to consist of 13 episodes, following a similar one-season format as Watanabe’s previous work on Cowboy Bebop.

Upon the announcement of the Lazarus anime, Adult Swim described its plot as stated below:

“The year is 2052 – an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this: mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Prize winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna soon becomes ubiquitous… and essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.

Three years later, the world has moved on. But Dr. Skinner has returned – this time, as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world – and coming soon.

As a response to this threat, a special task force of 5 agents is gathered from across the world to save humanity from Skinner’s plan. This group is called “Lazarus.”Can they find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out?”
