The director of John Wick, Chad Stahelski, is collaborating with Shinichiro Watanabe and MAPPA to create an original anime series called Lazarus. Stahelski will be responsible for the action sequences.
According to Adult Swim, the story takes place in the year 2052 when the world is experiencing a period of unparalleled peace and prosperity due to the eradication of sickness and pain. The credit for this accomplishment goes to Dr. Skinner, a Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist, who has created a revolutionary drug called Hapuna that has no known side effects. Hapuna quickly becomes widely used and necessary, but shortly after its release, Dr. Skinner mysteriously disappears.
Three years have passed and the world has continued on, but Dr. Skinner has reappeared, this time bringing a message of impending doom. He reveals that Hapuna has a brief half-life and those who have used it will perish within three years. Death looms over this corrupt world and its arrival is imminent.
To combat this threat, a team of 5 agents from different parts of the globe is assembled as a special task force to stop Skinner’s scheme and protect humanity. This team, known as “Lazarus,”must locate Skinner and create a vaccine before it’s too late.
