According to a new report by Travis Gafford, it is expected that the LCS will adopt a best-of-three format for the Summer Split.
This report is released one month after the new LCS commissioner, Markz, released a video explaining the franchise’s decision to continue with best-of-one. However, Markz also acknowledged that Riot Games will take into account the preferences of both teams and fans when considering the format.
According to Garfford’s latest YouTube video, insider information suggests that the upcoming change in the LCS to best-of-three matches will have a significant impact on the outcome of games.
To increase the number of matches played between teams, a decision has been made to switch from a double round-robin format, where teams play each other twice, to a single round-robin format where teams will only face off once. This will result in each team playing three matches against each other instead of the previous two. Furthermore, it has been announced that the number of Best of 3 matches per week will be reduced to two, which will result in a longer season.
In preparation for the upcoming Esports World Cup, the LCS will be going on a two-week hiatus. This break mirrors the two-week pause that occurred during Spring in order to make way for the start of the Valorant Champions Tour.
“According to Gafford, this will not bode well for the LCS as it may further diminish the already struggling viewership of the product.”
Nevertheless, in a later part of the video, Gafford expresses his hope that his prediction of the BO3 being detrimental to the league is proven wrong. It should be noted that these are just speculations about the upcoming changes in the LCS and neither Markz nor the LCS have made any official announcements about a potential alteration in the format for the Summer Split.
