LE SSERAFIM: A Last Chance for Success at Coachella?

During the Korean time of April 20th to 21st, ATEEZ (Hongjoong, Seonghwa, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Jongho) and LE SSERAFIM (Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, and Hong Eunchae) will be performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival once again.

Since its inception in 1999, Coachella has maintained its tradition and prestige as the world’s largest music festival. Each year, it draws in more than 200,000 spectators and serves as an iconic “dream stage”for a diverse range of musicians. The festival invites artists who possess both mainstream popularity and exceptional musical talent.

On April 13th and 14th, ATEEZ and LE SSERAFIM performed on stage, with the former being pitied by netizens for being outshined by the latter during their respective performances at Coachella.

On April 20th, ATEEZ will take the stage at the Sahara Stage from 2:45 PM to 3:35 PM for their performance.

ATEEZ made history on April 13th as the first K-pop boy group to perform at Coachella.

ATEEZ showcased a collection of 10 tracks, such as “Say My Name” , “HALA HALA” , “Guerrilla” , “Crazy Form” , “ROCKY” , “The Real” , “ARRIBA” , “DJANGO” , “BOUNCY (K-HOT CHILLI PEPPERS)” and “WONDERLAND” .

Serafim, who will be at Coachella on April 21st, will be playing at the Sahara Stage from 2:50 PM to 3:30 PM.

Similar to BLACKPINK and aespa, LE SSERAFIM caught the attention of international media even prior to their performance.

According to the prestigious music publication Rolling Stone, LE SSERAFIM is on the brink of global success. The K-pop sensation is poised to elevate their career with a highly anticipated performance at ‘Coachella’ and other upcoming ventures. It is difficult to fathom that this group, who exude confidence, poise and professionalism in every performance, has only been together for two years.

On April 14th, LE SSERAFIM performed a set of 10 songs, which featured popular tracks such as “ANTIFRAGILE”, “FEARLESS”, and “The Great Mermaid”. They also showcased fan favorites like “UNFORGIVEN”, “Eve, Psyche & the Bluebeard’s Wife”, and “Perfect Night”. Additionally, they debuted a new, previously unreleased song titled “Fire in the Belly”.

Throughout their performance, LE SSERAFIM displayed a commanding presence on stage. Despite maintaining a high level of intensity throughout, they faced difficulties with proper vocal delivery and appeared increasingly strained towards the end.

Despite facing controversies in Korea, LE SSERAFIM continued to perform concerts, which were met with suspicions of lip-syncing. This sparked debates about the vocal ability of LE SSERAFIM.

In particular, even fans from other countries, who are typically more accepting of matters such as dating and drug use, expressed their disappointment with LE SSERAFIM’s vocal abilities, adding to the ongoing controversy.

Sakura Le Serafim

Despite the controversy, Sakura remained confident and expressed her thoughts on Weverse, stating that everyone has their own standards and that those standards can vary depending on the type of stage. She believes that the show was enjoyable for both fans and newcomers, and she has always strived to create a memorable stage. With determination, Sakura and her group put on the best performance they could, pouring all their efforts into their Coachella performance. Despite being only in their second year since debut and having only held one tour, they sang their hearts out and truly enjoyed the stage. While some may view them as immature, it is clear that no one is perfect and this was the best performance they have delivered to date.

This attitude eventually caused even supporters of LE SSERAFIM, who previously argued that the group was showing signs of growth, to abandon their position.

Thankfully, LE SSERAFIM was granted another opportunity to prove themselves. Whether they will be praised for displaying improvement in their second week performance or face the disappointment of returning home will ultimately be determined by the members themselves.
