LE SSERAFIM member Huh Yunjin recently showcased the contrasts between America and Korea in her latest feature for Vogue, offering fans a glimpse into the cultural distinctions between the two nations.
On May 15, 2024, Vogue released a new video for their “Beauty Secrets”series, showcasing Huh Yunjin, a member of LE SSERAFIM. In the video, she delved into her skincare and daily makeup routines, as well as sharing amusing stories and anecdotes about her life.
During her conversation, she mentioned the differences she noticed between America and Korea.
The initial step was applying make-up. She noted that the most significant contrast between the two styles was in the base. Koreans prefer a dewy, minimal, and light-coverage base, while American make-up tends to be more matte and have higher coverage.
As a high school student in America, Huh Yunjin had a strong interest in contouring. However, upon relocating to South Korea, she observed that sculpting was not as popular there. Korean make-up trends tend to be more understated overall.
She also mentioned South Korea’s fixation on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI, a well-known personality test that categorizes individuals. She observed that in the United States, people tend to be more interested in horoscopes and zodiac signs.
In place of “What’s your sign?”which is commonly asked in America, Koreans often inquire about a person’s MBTI instead.
The idol also mentioned her training experience. She emphasized that becoming an idol requires being a trainee first. As part of their training, they are evaluated monthly in front of a camera to ensure they look their best. The female idol shared that she learned various tips and tricks during this time to improve her appearance on camera.
One of her tricks is to curl her bottom lashes by using her eyelash curler upside down. This technique helps her bottom lashes fan out and look fuller.
