At the comeback showcase for LE SSERAFIM, Eunchae offered an apology for “mocking students.”The group also humbly bowed their heads in recognition of their Coachella 2024 performance.
On August 29, the fourth-generation representative girl group held a comeback showcase in Seoul, prior to the Friday release of their fourth mini-album titled “Crazy”.
During the interview with the Korean press, LE SSERAFIM also used the opportunity to address the controversies surrounding the team and its members.
Eunchae, the youngest member, was previously attacked by university students online after they accused her of mocking them.
In a live broadcast last March, a member of the group received criticism for making a seemingly “condescending”remark while attempting to empathize with students’ struggles, specifically their need to attend school at 7 a.m.
This statement did not go over well with Korean students, who felt that they were being mocked and diminished. They were particularly upset by the implication that Eunchae did not experience the same challenges as they did, despite not attending school.
In regards to this, Eunchae publicly apologized and stated:
“At the time, I think I thought about it comfortably, without knowing it, because it was a place to communicate with fans.
I should have been aware that the closer you are, the more careful you have to be, but I didn’t think about this deeply.
I apologize for disappointing you with my immature behavior. I promise to show myself as a more responsible person with a careful heart.”
During the showcase, Korean journalists also raised the issue of the group’s “poor”live singing skills at Coachella 2024.
Despite being a K-pop girl group, their performance at the time was often criticized as the “worst”compared to other groups who also performed on stage. This was mainly due to their inconsistent vocals.
Kim Chaewon, who is one of the vocalists in the group, openly expressed her remorse and recognized their deficiencies in their abilities, stating:
“There were many regrettable parts about our Coachella stage, but it was a time when the team and the members learned and realized a lot.
Since it was our first time performing at a big outdoor festival, we got excited without realizing it and couldn’t control our pace, so I think we were lacking in that area.”
Despite the criticism, she reassured fans that the group will use it as motivation to better themselves.
“We realized that we still have a long way to learn more and gain experience, and we think that it’s our lifelong task to show an even better side of ourselves in the future. The members also talked about showing a better side of ourselves.”
According to Huh Yunjin, the lead singer of LE SSERAFIM:
“Based on this experience, we want to show our gradual growth. I think ‘Crazy’ is the first step toward that. We will work hard to show our fans who support us a better stage and music. Please watch over our growth.”
