LE SSERAFIM Mocked For Mentioning IU, Lee Hyo-ri, Uhm Jung-hwa in New Song’s Lyrics

On August 30, a post titled “LE SSERAFIM’s Lyrics Are So Shameful”was shared on the popular Korean online community, Nate Pann.

The term “shame-play”is a commonly used Korean slang that describes deliberately creating a situation to humiliate a specific individual. This was evident in a recent post featuring a screenshot of the lyrics from LE SSERAFIM’s latest song “Pierrot,”which unnecessarily mentions veteran singers IU and Lee Hyo-ri in the line “IU and Lee Hyo-ri, who’s next?”

The post quickly gained popularity with 119,784 views and numerous comments. Some comments expressed agreement that the lyrics were awkward, while others noted that the first verse of the song also mentions other singers, including Kim Wan-sun and Uhm Jung-hwa, with the line “Kim Wan-sun and Uhm Jung-hwa, who’s next?”

A few of the remarks are listed below:

“I’m sure it was also embarrassing for them to sing.”

“The initial verse additionally references Kim Wan-sun and Um Jung-hwa. Is this merely a coincidence or are you deliberately following a theme?”

“Although their lyrics are good, their performance for this comeback is disappointing. Despite facing tough competition, NewJeans aespa and IVE consistently rank 1st and 2nd, while LE SSERAFIM is not even in the top 50. It almost seems like the chart is an empty battlefield. Were they too preoccupied with manipulating their rankings? It’s hard to understand how their ranking could be so low. What a joke.”

“Ugh…. Who was the person responsible for writing the lyrics?”

“Why didn’t you sing Taylor Rihanna instead? Actually, let’s just avoid singing those lyrics altogether.”

“This is a different level, isn’t it slightly impolite…”

“The fact that Kim Wan-sun and Uhm Jung-hwa are no longer a part of the younger generation may come as a surprise. However, it should be noted that they were influential figures for those who grew up watching them. Is it possible that you are catering solely to an older fan base? Just a thought.”

“Their anti is their company… Ha.”
