League of Legends has kicked off its latest season, but not without its share of controversies. A significant concern from the community centers on the Blue Essence currency, leading developers at Riot Games to openly acknowledge their miscalculations.
With the introduction of the new seasonal framework for 2025, modifications to how players earn currency and account experience points have raised eyebrows. Many players conducted their own calculations and were disappointed to discover that acquiring enough Blue Essence to purchase a new champion became a daunting task.
As a result, the free-to-play experience has taken a notable dip compared to the previous year. Riot Games has responded to the backlash, indicating that they will make necessary adjustments in upcoming patches to enhance the availability of Blue Essence.
Details on Changes to Blue Essence in League of Legends
In a recent message on the official League of Legends website, the developers pinpointed three primary areas where they fell short. First, the rate at which players earn Blue Essence is substantially lower than it was last year.
Secondly, progress from Level 1 to Level 30—crucial for unlocking ranked matches—has slowed by a troubling 30%. Finally, the developers admitted to inadequate communication regarding the relocation of account level champion capsules to the pass after reaching level 30.
To remedy the Blue Essence issue, Riot will implement a series of adjustments, increasing the lower end of Blue Essence earned from 4,820 to 5,320, while the higher end will jump from 8,910 to 19,940. A significant portion of this increase will derive from enhancements to the Epilogue Milestone rewards, which are set to rise from 50 to 750 Blue Essence per milestone.
It is important to mention that due to many players already progressing through the milestones, Riot cannot make these changes in the current Act. Instead, they will introduce a one-time, straightforward mission that will be available with Patch 25.S1.3.
Additionally, account experience points (XP) will receive a substantial boost of 40%, and the final Champion Capsule in the Pass will be upgraded to a Glorious Champion Capsule starting with the Act 2 Pass.
These revised figures are more promising and are expected to appease a frustrated player base, demonstrating Riot’s commitment to addressing community concerns.
