League of Legends is set to transform with Patch 15.1, heralding the arrival of the Noxus map. This significant overhaul includes a comprehensive redesign focused on Feats of Strength, the introduction of a new jungle monster known as Atakhan, and various gameplay adjustments as the game strides into 2025.
It has been quite a while since the game’s maps underwent a complete renovation. We’ve seen minor tweaks during major esports events—like updated visuals for the Baron pit—but nothing compares to the extensive changes being introduced with the release of the Noxus map.
The update brings fresh flora in the form of Blood Roses, new jungle creatures, redesigned turrets, subtle alterations to the map’s geometry, a vibrant color palette, and even an entirely new musical score to enhance the atmosphere of Summoner’s Rift as we kick off the new year.
Overview of League of Legends Patch 15.1
Map Modifications
The dawn of the Season of Noxus has arrived, introducing not only a visual revamp for Summoner’s Rift but also crucial gameplay enhancements that significantly affect how players strategize on the battlefield.
Introducing Atakhan, Bringer of Ruin
Atakhan spawns at the 20-minute mark, appearing on the side of the map with the most player kills or deaths by the 14-minute mark. In cases with no kills, he will emerge on the side that received the most damage.
Upon his arrival, Atakhan creates a new arena, altering the map’s terrain. He also drops Blood Roses, which provide a permanent power boost and experience points for the entire team. There are two variants of Atakhan with distinct abilities and buffs upon defeat:
- Ruinous Atakhan: Appears in high-kill matches, rewarding the team that defeats him with bonus Bloody Petals and additional Roses for further collection.
- Voracious Atakhan: Emerges in slower-paced games and presents a significant short-term threat, granting these buffs upon defeat:
- False Life: For 180 seconds after his demise, players avoid death once, entering Stasis and teleporting back to their spawn. The attacker receives 1 Bloody Petal and 100 gold, while the entire team earns 40 bonus gold for each champion takedown.
Atakhan typically appears only once per match, though Blood Roses will continue to spawn over time, mainly on the locations where champions fall.
Objective Timers Adjustment
Updates have been made to the spawn timers of objectives: Rift Herald will now appear at 16 minutes, Atakhan at 20 minutes, and Baron at 25 minutes, ensuring a better-paced gameplay experience.
Turret Changes
- Turret fortification damage reduction adjusted from 85% to 50%, which impacts the damage turrets received while they have plates.
- Nexus turrets will now respawn shortly after being destroyed, thwarting backdoor strategies and allowing for potential late-game comebacks.
Feats of Strength & Boot Upgrades
The Feats of Strength brings forward three unique objectives: securing first blood, destroying the first tower, and being the first team to slay three epic monsters. Accomplishing any two of these objectives enables players to purchase one of the new and powerful boot upgrades, provided they already own two legendary items.
