Despite the commencement of the second leg of LoL Worlds 2024, the event has already achieved a remarkable peak concurrent viewership of nearly 3 million viewers. This impressive figure places it far above any other esports event this year.
Interestingly, we are still in the Swiss Stage, which is only the second phase of the World Championship, typically recording lower viewership than the significant Finals matches that hold the most weight. However, in 2024, this trend appears to be changing.
Reflecting on Worlds 2023, peak concurrent viewership did not approach the 3 million mark until the Knockout Stage, specifically during the Quarterfinals and Semifinals, according to Esports Charts.
On the first day of the Swiss Stage at Worlds 2024, the peak viewership was already an impressive 2.8 million viewers. If this trend continues, this year’s international event is poised to set several all-time records, even though it is already leading the pack for 2024.
T1 emerged victorious at Worlds 2023
Importantly, the Grand Final of Worlds 2023 peaked at over 6.4 million concurrent viewers, an astonishing figure that stands out as the most-viewed esports event of all time. This number eclipses the viewership of other games by a significant margin.
For comparison, the recent BLAST Premier event, where G2 secured a title in CS2, peaked at only 900k viewers, despite being one of the largest Counter-Strike events of 2024.
League of Legends may have been around for a while, but it firmly holds its position as the leading esport globally regarding viewership, with numbers expected to rise as we approach 2024’s grand finale in the competitive season. This surge is largely attributed to the popularity of co-streamers.
Influencers like Caedrel, Ibai, and Baiano each attracted at least 100k viewers during the event, at times overshadowing the main Riot broadcast. Co-streaming is quickly becoming the preferred method for fans to engage with esports events.
