Leaked Pirate Game from Like a Dragon: Too Ridiculous to Believe

Like a Dragon enthusiasts are rejoicing over the announcement of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, but an intriguing leak has surfaced showing that many of the surprising details had actually been shared months prior.

The upcoming Like a Dragon title marks a significant departure from the traditional series formula. It shifts gears into a pirate-themed adventure set in Hawaii and pivots around Goro Majima, a fan-favorite character who has enjoyed playable status in only a select few games.

While this revelation caught many fans off guard, a user on Twitter/X highlighted that critical details about the game, including its protagonist and the overarching pirate theme, were leaked on 4chan several months ago. The information seemed so outrageous that it was dismissed as fake.

As the tweet indicates, a post on 4chan from May 2024 detailed a new Yakuza spinoff titled “project ‘Madlantis’” set to follow the events of Infinite Wealth with Majima as the lead character. According to the leak, Majima would lose his memories, take on a pirate identity, and find himself in Hawaii—all of which have since been confirmed in the game’s official reveal.

Considering the widespread reaction to Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, it appears that most fans either overlooked the leak or dismissed it as improbable. To be fair, the concept of “Goro Majima becoming a pirate and heading to Hawaii” does sound more like a fan-made game or fanfiction rather than an authentic release from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega.

In a humorous twist, one user remarked that game developers might want to adopt a new strategy to prevent leaks: “New strategy for avoiding gaming leaks: Create a plot so f**ked up that no one will believe you.”

Another user pointed out that, given the franchise’s history, the game’s outlandish concept shouldn’t be shocking, saying, “If I saw this post when it came out, I would’ve absolutely believed it because after all the weird wacky stuff in these games, how could this not be a possibility?”

Interestingly, the original leak contains information regarding the plot and gameplay mechanics that the announcement trailer has not yet addressed.
