Challenges and Triumphs

Originally completed in 2021, “The Match” encountered major hurdles following Yoo Ah-in‘s involvement in a drug scandal. This controversy delayed the film’s release indefinitely and led to the cancellation of its initial Netflix schedule. Fortunately, the project’s distributor, By4M Studio, has now secured a theatrical release slated for March 26.

Although Yoo Ah-in will not participate in promotional activities, Lee Byung-hun reflected on their collaboration during the film’s production.

Yoo Ah-in

When I learned that Yoo Ah-in was cast as Lee Chang-ho, I felt a surge of excitement. It was our first project together, ” Lee recalled.“I expected him to be more spirited, yet he turned out to be quite introverted. We didn’t have many opportunities for deep conversations outside of filming but when on set, he was intensely focused and committed to his role.”

On their on-screen chemistry, Lee remarked, “Even without a profound personal connection, his dedication to the character was palpable. His level of involvement kept me engaged throughout our scenes.”

Looking Ahead

“The Match” tells a compelling narrative about the relationship between a master and his talented disciple and is finally set to shine in cinemas after a challenging road to release.
