In her post, she challenged the notion that celebrities should refrain from commenting on political issues: “You’re saying I’m not in a position to talk about politics? Then what kind of position allows someone to talk about politics?” She further emphasized her right as a citizen to engage in political discourse, stating, “As a citizen, as a member of society, I’ll decide for myself. I’ll also decide what I talk about. It’s because I’m a celebrity that I’m speaking out. I truly appreciate your concerns, but let’s strive to live in a better world together—a world where we can love freely.”

These statements come at a crucial time as South Korea is experiencing widespread protests and intense discussions prompted by the declaration of martial law and a push for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. On the same day, protests urging the president’s removal unfolded across the nation. Despite this public outcry, the motion for impeachment was automatically dismissed in the National Assembly due to insufficient attendance.

Lee Chaeyeon’s proactive stance stands in stark contrast to that of fellow celebrity Lim Young-woong, who faced criticism for his seemingly apolitical social media posts. After sharing a celebratory message about his dog’s birthday amidst the political turmoil, Lim’s responses to fans expressing disappointment included statements like, “What?” , “Am I a politician?” , and “Why should I speak out?” These remarks led to further discontent among segments of his fanbase.

In the broader context, numerous other prominent figures in the entertainment industry have actively taken a stand. Celebrated film director Bong Joon-ho, actress Moon So-ri, and over 2,500 other film industry professionals have signed a petition demanding the dismissal and accountability of President Yoon.
