On November 26, Saram Entertainment, representing Jung Ho Yeon, and Company On, which manages Lee Dong Hwi, confirmed to OSEN that the couple has officially ended their romantic relationship. “It is true that Jung Ho Yeon and Lee Dong Hwi have broken up. They have decided to return to being good colleagues,” the agencies stated, marking a significant shift in their relationship status.
A Decade of Togetherness
Jung Ho Yeon and Lee Dong Hwi began their romantic journey in 2015 and publicly acknowledged their relationship in January 2016. Their partnership blossomed despite a nine-year age difference, characterized by a supportive and private connection. Lee Dong Hwi often refrained from discussing their love life in interviews, prioritizing their privacy while demonstrating his affection for Jung Ho Yeon.
Recently, however, changes in their public interactions have raised eyebrows among fans. Their playful banter began to appear more frequently, especially on the web variety show, Pinggyego, where they showcased their chemistry in humorous exchanges.
Cheeky Moments on “Pinggyego”
During an episode in March, Lee Dong Hwi was a guest on Pinggyego, where host Yoo Jae Suk playfully mentioned Jung Ho Yeon’s comments about Lee’s project, Gyewon of the Month. “Ho Yeon said she found it boring, but I told her, ‘Dong Hwi was cute in it,’”Yoo playfully countered, noting that she had shown interest in appearing on the show.
Lee Dong Hwi responded with a wink, wishing aloud for her to join him for a segment, while expressing gratitude for the special video message she secured from David Beckham during one event.
When Jung Ho Yeon later graced the show with her presence, she maintained the playful atmosphere, sharing humorous stories of her rising fame post-Squid Game. She recalled Lee Dong Hwi’s delight at her securing an autograph from Beckham, emphasizing his continuous gratitude for that moment, joking, “He keeps saying my power has surpassed his.”
Transitioning from Romance to Companionship
In the final months of their relationship, the couple began to candidly discuss their bond in public forums. For instance, during an appearance on Kwak Taxitrip 2 in August, Lee Dong Hwi openly referred to Jung Ho Yeon as his girlfriend. Despite these tender recollections, they ultimately chose to end their romantic relationship, opting instead to nurture a supportive friendship.
The reasons for their split have not been revealed, with both agencies highlighting the mutual respect that remains between them. “They have decided to remain on good terms as colleagues,” their statement concluded, echoing a commitment to their professional camaraderie.
