Lee Hong-ki of FT ISLAND Stands Up for Choi Min-hwan Facing Prostitution Allegations

Recently, Choi Min-hwan of FT Island found himself at the center of a scandal after his ex-wife Yul-hee alleged that he frequently frequented adult entertainment venues during their marriage. On October 24th, Yul-hee took to her YouTube channel to share these claims, shedding light on Choi Min-hwan’s alleged behavior.

The next day, on October 25th, Lee Hong-ki addressed the issue on the fan platform Weverse, stating, “This is a personal matter that has become public. If mistakes were made, they should be acknowledged openly with an apology.”

He further remarked, “However, we should exercise caution before believing all the allegations being circulated.”

Lee Hong-ki emphasized resilience amidst the challenges, stating, “I must endure; that’s our approach. I can only continue to move forward while facing criticism.”

Historically, Lee Hong-ki has exhibited strong affection for the band, notably for Choi Min-hwan and his children. Approximately three years back in 2021, during a program alongside Yul-hee, she praised Lee Hong-ki, sharing how he had reached out to Choi Min-hwan before his military service, mentioning he wanted to visit and brought gifts for their child, Jae-yul.

Lee Hong-ki’s commitment extended to a promise he made to cover the college tuition of Choi Min-hwan and Yul-hee’s first child. Yul-hee often brought this up, stating, “I’d like to reaffirm Hong-ki oppa’s promise to fund Jae-yul’s college tuition. I hope he remembers it.” In response, Lee Hong-ki explained, “I specifically pledged to pay for one semester of tuition.”

During FT ISLAND’s recent 15th-anniversary gathering, Yul-hee playfully reminded Lee Hong-ki about his promise regarding Jae-yul’s tuition. Lee Hong-ki jokingly stated he would take responsibility but added that he humorously hoped Jae-yul would consider not attending college. This moment drew renewed attention in light of recent events.

In response to the mounting allegations, FNC Entertainment, representing Choi Min-hwan, issued a statement saying, “While we may not completely understand the intricacies of their marital issues, Choi Min-hwan recognizes his responsibility for disappointing many fans and viewers. As a result, he has opted to pause all media engagements, including appearances on the program featuring his children.” The agency added, “We sincerely apologize for any discomfort and concern this has caused.”

Although Choi Min-hwan has decided to withdraw from KBS 2TV’s “The Return of Superman,” reports indicate that FT Island’s concert set for October 26th in Kaohsiung will continue as scheduled.
