On the afternoon of the 23rd, Actor Lee Min-ho and actress Kim Min-ha, who both starred in season 2 of the Apple TV+ series “Pachinko,”crossed paths at Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
Pachinko is a tale that encompasses a grand narrative, starting with a forbidden romance and chronicling a poignant story of war, peace, romance, and division, as well as moments of triumph and justice, involving Korea, Japan, and the United States.
Season 2 begins with Osaka in 1945, where the characters’ stories unfold in a tense environment on the brink of World War II. The work effectively portrays the realities of Japan and Korea during this tumultuous time.
Kim Min-ha portrays a young Seon-ja who faces challenges in raising her two children, while Lee Min-ho takes on the role of Han-su, a character who has experienced a significant increase in wealth.
In 1995, Kim Min-ha, an actor, took on the role of a mother alongside actor Kang Tae-joo as her son. Additionally, Lee Min-ho made a powerful and convincing appearance through the use of makeup and dialogue.
Kim Min-ha admitted that the process was not easy, stating, “I would be dishonest if I said it wasn’t challenging. I put a lot of thought into it. Moving into season 2, there were many new experiences and developments. With a seven-year time jump, I focused on capturing the growth and changes in the fairy’s life. The child has matured significantly, and I made sure to depict this aspect as accurately as possible.”
Kim Min-ha, who also received significant assistance from makeup and costumes, shared, “It was fascinating to see how certain pieces of clothing seemed to blend seamlessly with my body when I put them on. I made sure to convey a sense of momentum and explore my character’s inner thoughts.”
Lee Min-ho revealed that in season 1, Han-su worked as a fish broadcaster, but after a seven-year break, he returned as an arms dealer. This sparked thoughts about his sudden rise to success and the amount of corruption he must have encountered along the way.
Pachinko holds great significance for the two of them.
At the age of 34, and after 12 years in the entertainment industry, Lee Min-ho expressed his need for a new image. He wanted to break free from any restrictions and limitations. However, his journey took a different turn when he became a part of the Pachinko project. He believes that working in a comfortable environment with such wonderful people has not only helped him grow as an actor, but also as a person. He is grateful for the experience and feels that it has transformed him into a better version of himself – Lee Min-ho.
Kim Min-ha, an actor, acknowledges that ‘Pachinko’ played a significant role in his career. He reflects, “After being cast in the role, I had the opportunity to explore new experiences and gained recognition from many people. However, the biggest impact was the time spent with ‘Pachinko’ and the self-discovery it brought. Through the character of Seonja, I learned valuable lessons and aspired to be like her in my future. Seonja and Han-su’s relationship and emotions become more complex in season 2. According to Kim Min-ha, the actress who plays Seonja, their relationship matures and deepens as time passes. She believes that their romantic love ended in the first episode, but they are both parents now. Kim, who is also a mother, feels that their conversations have evolved and their bond has become stronger and unexplainable, making it a crucial aspect to watch in the series.
Kim Min-ha was moved by the emotional and heartwarming scene at the end where Seon-ja and Han-su, now parents, spoke to each other like old friends. The rain added to the atmosphere and gave Kim Min-ha a strong feeling. She realized that this was how life works, and it left a lasting impact on her.
Kim Min-ha, who portrayed a mother who raised her two children, reflected on her experience, saying, “I gained a lot of knowledge and insight. There are countless people living similar lives, including my own mother and grandmother. It was truly awe-inspiring. I owe my existence to them.”She also shared, “It was a challenging journey to learn and grow alongside my son.”One of the most difficult scenes was when her character’s son, Noah, announced he would not be attending college. She expressed her struggles in trying to persuade him or express her anger. Through this, she realized the immense difficulty of raising a child. She acknowledged that her own parents must have faced similar challenges.
Lee Min-ho shared, “Portraying Han-su, I deeply contemplated the meaning of life. I reflected on my purpose and what is worth protecting. This is the essence of ‘Pachinko’. It instills in me a desire to become a better individual and encourages personal development. Through this experience, I have gained valuable insights about life.”He expressed these sentiments, which can only be truly understood through ‘Pachinko 2’.
Additionally, “Pachinko 2″is scheduled to premiere on the 23rd with a total of eight episodes releasing every Friday thereafter.
