Lee Seung-gi’s former CEO Kwon Jin-young admits to illegally obtaining sleeping pills “Please consider my lower body paralysis”

The first trial for Kwon Jin-young, who was accused of violating the Narcotics Control Act, was held on June 20th at the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 2, presided by Judge Park So-jung.

Kwon Jin-young allegedly instructed two of his employees to falsely claim symptoms of sleep disorders in order to obtain prescriptions for Stilnox, a sleep-inducing drug containing zolpidem. The prescriptions were obtained on three separate occasions between January and July 2022, resulting in a total of 17 pills received by Kwon.

Moreover, it was stated that she obtained zolpidem from another person who was also using it. As per the Narcotics Control Act, individuals who are not authorized to handle narcotics are not allowed to acquire or exchange psychotropic drugs.

During the trial, Kwon Jin-young’s attorney acknowledged that Kwon Jin-young had admitted to all charges and showed remorse. However, the attorney pleaded for leniency, explaining that Kwon Jin-young had been taking prescribed sleeping pills since 2015 to treat and prevent recurring strokes, which had resulted in her experiencing paralysis in her lower body.

Kwon Jin-young, who was formerly the manager for singer Lee Sun-hee, established Hook Entertainment in 2002. She faced disputes with Lee Seung-gi regarding the resolution of music usage fees.
