Ball is preparing for his upcoming film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which will continue the popular sci-fi series with a fresh tale that takes place years after Caesar’s rule.
As he is also directing the long-awaited live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, we seized the chance to inquire about the project from him.
Despite not being able to reveal too much about the film, he did hint that as a devoted follower of the Nintendo game, he is striving to deliver what the fans desire.

Ball expressed how significant Legend of Zelda is to him, stating, “It was a major part of my childhood, playing those games and immersing myself in its tone.”He further emphasized that he believes the adaptation will be created by a passionate fan for fellow fans.
The filmmaker expressed, “The direction of the tone is yet to be determined. However, I am optimistic that we will create something that meets everyone’s expectations.”
In addition to his upcoming projects, Ball is also known for directing the Maze Runner trilogy. Before starting his career as a director, he worked as a VFX artist, which undoubtedly helped him collaborate with the team responsible for the impressive visual effects in his Planet of the Apes film.
When asked about his willingness to work on a follow-up to Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Ball explained, “Personally, I gained a wealth of knowledge from this film and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was a difficult undertaking, but I grew tremendously from it.”
“The main reason to come back to this production are the cast themselves. They are all wonderful individuals, as well as the crew at Wētā FX. Working with everyone has been a dream come true. Despite the challenges, the entire team made the experience enjoyable and fun.”
The highly anticipated Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be hitting UK cinemas on May 9 and US cinemas on May 10.
