Legendary X-Men artist Jim Lee reveals first new Marvel work since ’90s

Jim Lee, a prolific comic book artist, is returning to illustrate Marvel Characters for the first time in years on two upcoming omnibus covers.

Jim Lee is a legendary comic book creator, renowned for his iconic work that has influenced multiple generations. He is credited for his contributions to some of the most beloved and significant X-Men stories of the contemporary era. Lee’s blockbuster art has played a key role in the creation of projects such as X-Men ’97.

In 2000, he made the decision to leave and join DC Comics, where he initially worked as an artist for Batman publications. However, he eventually transitioned into more editorial-focused positions. Despite this, he continues to occasionally share his impressive and updated artwork, with his most recent reveal being a truly noteworthy moment.

Lee has announced that he will be creating the cover art for two highly anticipated omnibus releases, Marvel vs. DC Omnibus and Marvel vs. DC: The Amalgam Age Omnibus. To the delight of fans, he recently revealed the artwork on his Instagram page, marking his return to creating art for Marvel characters after his departure from the company in 1996’s Heroes Reborn.

Despite fans’ long-standing anticipation, the highly anticipated Marvel vs. DC and Amalgam Universe crossovers have been out of print for years due to the complicated publishing rights of the dual-owned properties. However, with the recent announcement, fans can finally look forward to experiencing these quintessential Marvel and DC collaborations.

Lee has achieved great success at DC Comics, being elevated to President in May of 2023. He also holds the positions of company publisher and Chief Creative Officer. Despite this, it is rumored that Marvel is interested in rekindling some of Lee’s past success, as they have reportedly attempted to persuade him to return for the X-Men: From The Ashes relaunch.

Both the DC vs. Marvel Omnibus and the DC vs. Marvel: The Amalgam Age Omnibus will be available on August 6.
