LEGO Fortnite’s censored Dead Game skin leaves community confused

In the LEGO game mode, Epic released the Veronika skin for Fortnite, which features a “Dead Game”shirt that was censored.

In 2022, Epic introduced the “Dead Game”skin to Fortnite as part of the v21.50 update. This skin, officially named the Veronika skin, features a woman wearing a forest green top emblazoned with the words “DEAD GAME.”

The shirt was a way for Epic to tease those who constantly flooded comment sections and forums with claims that Fortnite was “dead.”As evident, Veronika’s popularity has even earned her a spot in the world of LEGO Fortnite. However, the transition between the two worlds is not a perfect match.

According to HYPEX, Veronika is wearing a different shirt in LEGO mode, with the white letters spelling out “DEAD GAME”replaced by the phrase “BEST GAME.”It should also be noted that there is a change in Veronika’s hair color between the two versions.

Despite receiving praise from many for being adorable and fun, some individuals are expressing confusion over the edit. They are jokingly speculating that Epic may have made the change in order to protect children from seeing the original wording on the shirt.

One harsh response dismissively declares that the idea of death is too frightening for children.

Without an official statement from the publisher, any assumptions can only be considered as mere speculation. However, it is highly probable that LEGO will be involved in some way, as evidenced by the fact that while Fortnite has a T for Teen rating from the ESRB, the LEGO mode received a separate E10+ rating.

Some have countered that the perceived censorship may actually have a different motive. According to one individual, “It’s possible that LEGO’s focus on promoting positivity led them to change it to ‘best game’ instead of ‘dead game,’ which has a negative connotation.”

It is yet to be determined if Epic Games will provide an explanation of their own.
