Lesser Known Vocalist Serafim’s Performance at Weverse Concert Receives Mixed Reactions

The media has reported that LE SSERAFIM performed live during the 2024 Weverse Concert, but their performance seems to be receiving a mix of reactions.

Over the weekend, the Weverse Con Festival 2024, an event organized by HYBE, successfully took place. The festival showcased spectacular performances from various HYBE groups including SEVENTEEN, LE SSERAFIM, TXT, ILLIT, and ENHYPEN. Additionally, the founder of JYP Entertainment, Park Jin Young, made a special appearance.

LE SSERAFIM’s stage received special attention from the public at HYBE’s important annual concert, which notably did not include the agency’s top girl group, NewJeans. Despite their absence, other HYBE stars delivered impressive performances.

After receiving harsh criticism from Koreans for their disastrous performance at Coachella, the girl group LE SSERAFIM was given the title “national shame”and faced intense public scrutiny.

Despite once being one of the most adored girl groups of the fourth generation, LE SSERAFIM were unexpectedly branded as the “most disliked girl group in K-pop.”The group faced backlash not only for their inconsistent live vocals, but also for their alleged lack of respect and failure to acknowledge their flaws. As a result, their every performance is now scrutinized, including their recent appearance at Weverse Con.

LE SSERAFIM confidently performed live at the concert, utilizing handheld microphones. The band, consisting of five members, delivered a string of their popular songs such as “UNFORGIVEN,””ANTIFRAGILE,””Perfect Night,”and “SMART.”

Despite their reputation for intricate and high-energy choreography, the group made the decision to scale back their dance routines and prioritize their vocals. This shift was in response to critiques of their live singing, ultimately leading to a more solid performance in contrast to their previous appearance at Coachella.

The performance of LE SSERAFIM at Weverse Con 2024 received widespread coverage from Korean media. A particular headline, titled “LE SSERAFIM gracefully performs live despite previous ‘controversy’… showcases smooth dance moves,”stirred up heated discussions on various online forums.

While recognizing the group’s efforts, some continued to criticize their reliance on backtracks and AR, claiming that these were used to mask their imperfections. As a result, the public remains doubtful of LE SSERAFIM’s live singing capabilities and sees the reduced choreography as a temporary solution rather than a true enhancement in their vocal abilities.

Feedback from Korean netizens included:

  • “I have a feeling this group wouldn’t have fallen to this level if Hong Eunchae had given a proper apology.”
  • This reeks of defending HYBE.”
  • “So now just holding a hand mic means you’re a singer?”
  • “That’s because their dances are too intense. Yunjin and Chaewon have always proven in the past that they are capable of singing live.”
  • “Listen to the AR reveal…”
  • “So you’re trying to tell me that these idols choose to give up their voice to focus on dancing!”
  • “They all need to take vocal lessons.”
  • “Nowadays there are too many idols who call themselves singers while letting AR do all the work.”
  • “As if their singing skills can improve overnight.”

Despite some improvement in their performance at Weverse Con, LE SSERAFIM continues to face criticism from the public. A majority of the audience is hoping for significant progress in their live singing skills.
