A post on X platform gained widespread attention on Instiz when it was discovered that the label of LE SSERAFIM, Source Music, was taking legal action against individuals who criticized the group’s live vocal abilities and accused them of plagiarism.

From the documents obtained from a foreign court, the five individuals associated with the label requested the court to compel Google LLC to release the personal information of two YouTubers who had uploaded defamatory videos about the group.

Upon first investigation, SouMu provided evidence that revealed the content of @/issuefeed, which accused the group’s song “SMART”of being plagiarized from Tyla’s “Water.”Another channel, @/Short Chajang, also uploaded shorts that criticized the group’s performance skills at Coachella.

The application, which was submitted on May 31, was ultimately denied by the foreign court on June 5.

The OP clarified that the rejection was likely due to Source Music reporting only channels that posted criticism videos, unlike in the case of Jang Wonyoung and Sojang where they also reported channels that were defaming the members.

Upon learning about this, K-netz was unimpressed by Source Music’s decision and it resulted in even more backlash against LE SSERAFIM.

Source Music previously revealed their plans to take legal action against individuals who wrote malicious and sexually harassing comments about the members, with no exceptions. This decision was met with support from fans.

Despite this, the label’s attempt to silence those who criticized the members’ skills, claiming it was “embarrassing,”came as a shock to them.

Despite being aware that their critics have claimed “they can’t sing,”the group has chosen to focus their efforts on suing those who expressed this opinion, rather than working on improving their vocals and proving their critics wrong. This decision has left even fans puzzled.

After the incident, Source Music was urged by web commenters to prioritize taking action against the accounts responsible for spreading false rumors and malicious videos about the group, rather than the cases mentioned before.

These are the comments:

  • “Know how embarrassing it is to sue over the plagiarism controversy and the controversy over your live singing skills.”
  • “No, this is really something else. I thought they were filing a complaint against a malicious comment, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone file a complaint for something like a controversy over their abilities. So, personal information has been refused. This isn’t a malicious comment, but is it a way to silence criticism or what?”
  • “I support filing a complaint, but it should only be in the scope of malicious comments, rumors, or sexual harassment. I haven’t seen those shorts, but you shouldn’t file a complaint against those titles?”
  • “Wow, what a disgrace.”
  • “Instead of working on their vocals, they are instead suing people who say that they can’t sing. That’s exactly why their request was rejected. Imagine being the judge and some people ask you to reveal someone’s identity because they told you they can’t sing at Coachella.”
