“Galaxy Arts”, a non-profit arts and cultural space located in the “Galaxy Macau™”integrated resort, has been actively cooperating with the Macau SAR government and related organizations to carry out various arts and cultural activities since its opening in July 2021, fully demonstrating the Galaxy Entertainment Group (hereinafter referred to as “GEG”) attaches great importance to supporting the diversified development of culture and art in Macao. From now until December 29, 2023, “Galaxy Arts”will team up with the well-known media VOGUE Hong Kong and senior fashion director Sean Kunjambu to present the first personal photography exhibition of famous Asian photographer Xia Yongkang in Macau – “Xia Yongkang + 853 Macau Moments””, using the artist’s unique cinematic and artistic lens and immersive viewing experience, leads the audience to stop and gaze at a series of unique Macau moments, thus unveiling the artistic mystery of this city.
The photography exhibition “Xia Yongkang +853 Macau Moments”is curated by Sean Kunjambu, Xia Yongkang’s long-term partner and senior fashion director, and fully demonstrates his personal style. The exhibition will set up three sub-exhibitions in the “Galaxy Art Collection”, combining multimedia presentation methods to allow the audience to embark on a unique artistic journey in an immersive atmosphere. Through Xia Yongkang’s lens and vision, you can see the wonderful moments of Macau and feel the customs and stories of this small oriental city. In addition to a series of selected pictures taken by James Hsia in Macau, the key exhibits of this exhibition include thematic photos taken at the Cheng Family Mansion, one of the World Heritage Sites in Macau, and featuring Lee Jung-jae, the international movie star who starred in “The Squidward Game”. Under Xia Yongkang’s delicate and emotional lens, Li Zhengzai roams freely in this oldest existing Chinese-style courtyard house in Macau, performing a gorgeous visual blockbuster of retro nostalgia. Another highlight of the exhibition are the archival photos taken by Xia Yongkang of Gong Li, Gui Lunmei, Du Juan, Huang Xiaoming and other most representative figures in the film industry. Through specially processed lighting effects and film printing, these works present a unique sense of atmosphere, which is in sharp contrast to today’s glittering Macau, but also reveals the poetry and charm that makes people yearn for it. I believe it will resonate strongly with all audiences.
