The plot of Life is Strange: Double Exposure centers around Max Caulfield, the main character from the first Life is Strange game, as she attends the prestigious Caledon University. After Max finds her friend Safi’s lifeless body in the snow, she sets out on a quest through two alternate timelines – one in which Safi is alive and one in which she is not – in order to unravel the mystery and prevent her tragic death.
During the game, it will be necessary for players to investigate both timelines and piece together the events of the crime in order to ensure Safi’s safety.
Max’s abilities have evolved since the first game, as she now has a Pulse ability that enables her to glimpse into alternate timelines. This grants her the ability to easily distinguish between timelines and discreetly conduct her investigations without being detected.
Pulse will assist in revealing shift points, which Max can utilize to travel to the opposing timeline. Additionally, players have the option to enable a UI setting that will confirm the current timeline after shifting, preventing any potential confusion.
The fan base is primarily concerned with how Double Exposure will handle the ending of the original Life is Strange game, specifically regarding the outcomes for both Chloe Price and Arcadia Bay.
During a recent live stream, game director Jonathan Stauder confirmed that the sequel will “respect”the outcomes of both endings in the original game.
“The first game does not have a definitive ending in our book. In Double Exposure, both endings will be acknowledged and respected through Max’s thoughts, journal, text messages, and interactions with other characters. Her decision to disclose her past to her new friends will also be reflective of the final choice made.”
