Internet personality Lil Tay has recently undergone heart surgery following alarming claims on her social media accounts that she has a “life-threatening”heart tumor. Her representatives are addressing rumors suggesting that this medical situation is merely a PR stunt.
The 17-year-old influencer sparked widespread concern when her social media profiles announced “devastating news”about her condition in September.
Further updates detailed that she was diagnosed with a “life-threatening”heart tumor, accompanied by ultrasound images and photos taken inside a hospital setting.
On September 14, her Instagram account featured a video of Tay in a hospital bed, indicating she had undergone open-heart surgery.
Despite claims that the surgery was a “success,”many netizens remain doubtful due to the infamous death hoax that circulated in 2023.
In response to the skepticism, Tay’s accounts refuted these allegations, posting a tweet on September 16.
“The accusations that Tay’s health crisis is for publicity are false and disgusting,” the tweet stated. “If publicity or money were our goal, she would not have gone MIA for over a year. Instead, she would have posted every day to her millions of fans, and done PR runs like every other celebrity and dropped music every month.”
“Tay’s health has always been our priority, not popularity or money. The false Death Hoax, started by her misogynistic father to ruin her reputation, is now being projected onto her. This is blatant victim blaming and rooted in misogyny. Tay deserves support, not harmful accusations.”

This announcement follows a previous statement on September 14, which also rejected “misinformation”and distanced both Lil Tay and her mother from her “misogynistic father, Christopher John Hope.”
In 2023, Tay’s social media accounts were reportedly hacked, leading to false claims about her and her brother’s deaths. These were later disproven, and Tay asserted that her estranged father was behind the hoax.
Shortly thereafter, Tay launched her music career, prompting some to speculate that the death hoax was simply a publicity stunt aimed at regaining attention.
Tay’s representatives emphasize that her father was responsible for the hacking incident in 2023 and deny any correlation between her current health challenges and supposed PR strategies.
