On X, a list was released containing more than 200 K-pop idols, some of whom were minors, who were identified as victims of deepfake sexual crimes in South Korea.
In August, there was a huge amount of attention focused on South Korea, both nationally and globally, when the “New Nth Room”scandal made headlines.
Specifically, there were instances in which Korean males and students were discovered to be exchanging deepfake pornography through Telegram chat rooms with the intention of shaming women, their female peers, and even their own relatives. These manipulated videos were then used to coerce the victims into engaging in sexual acts, subjecting them to further mistreatment and depravity.

The issue of Deepfake has garnered significant attention worldwide, with particular concern in South Korea where sexual predators manipulate pornographic material by digitally replacing the faces or bodies of their victims.
In response to this terrible controversy, global K-pop fan communities utilized X as a platform to raise awareness about sexual crimes in Korea and published a list of deepfake porn websites that specifically target female idols.
One of the websites listed disclosed that more than 200 female idols were targeted as victims of R-19 Deepfake videos.
Upon examining the websites, it was noticed that the videos of the victims were sorted by their names in alphabetical order. The videos featured female idols from both first and fifth generations, and the most appalling part is that even underage individuals were included.
A number of the websites were regularly updated, providing evidence that these crimes were still occurring in the present day.

On X, K-pop fandoms were shocked and disgusted by the numerous videos and photos dedicated to each member that were shared on these lists. The platform alone has over 17,000 R-19 deepfake content of NewJeans Minji, which was enough to make fans feel nauseous.
The K-pop community is coming together to address this alarming issue and urging their agencies to take action in order to prevent further incidents and combat these sites.
Currently, fans are sending out mass emails and using trending hashtags to bring attention to the authorities.
At the same time, while female idols were discovered to be targets of the R-19 deepfake, it was also revealed that more than 200 male idols were implicated in the “New Nth Room”scandal.
This speculation was sparked by the media outlet Pitch One’s mention of the original “nth room”in 2020, which reportedly involved Korean men from various backgrounds such as politicians, celebrities, and athletes.
Taeil’s sexual crime allegations were also a contributing factor to the spread of rumors that the idol may have been involved in the situation.
The Bangbae Police later clarified that Taeil was not involved in the scandal. However, the inclusion of male idols in the “New Nth Room”has not yet been confirmed.
