LoL Developers Confirm the Fate of Popular Arena Mode and It’s Not Ideal

League of Legends developers have announced that the limited-time mode Arena will be discontinued after split two. They will continue to focus on and improve the mode through iteration.

Ever since its initial release, Arena has been a major success for League of Legends. The devs were so pleased with the popularity of the 2v2v2v2 mode that they later reintroduced it in an updated version. Due to the overwhelming support from players, Riot received numerous requests to make the mode a permanent feature in League of Legends, prompting the devs to continuously improve upon it.

Ever since its introduction, Arena has undergone a significant transformation by adding new elements such as Prismatic items and Stat Anvils, which have significantly altered the gameplay. Despite these changes, Arena has remained available on the client for an extended period, suggesting that it may have become a permanent feature.

Despite the developers’ recent explanation that Arena will be retired again at the end of Split 2, they have not provided a definitive answer on whether the mode will become a permanent fixture.

Riot Cadmus clarified that the Modes team is currently focused on a multitude of different projects, requiring them to carefully choose which modes will become permanent.

Swarm was recently created and we are already conducting research and development for upcoming projects. Our goal is to keep reviving beloved and timeless products, which requires us to constantly assess the most efficient use of our time and resources.

According to the Modes team, Arena has achieved significant success and this is why it was granted a longer run for this iteration. The developers were interested in observing how the community would benefit from the extended time and how players would respond to it.

With that goal in mind, we have been satisfied with our observations thus far. There will be ongoing support for League in the long run for Arena. The exact form this support will take, however, is still unclear.

Unfortunately, the developers were unable to provide a definitive answer, but they did mention that they will continue to invest in this area and provide exciting updates for dedicated fans of Arena.
