The highly anticipated trailer for League of Legends’ 2025 Season 1 has been released, sparking excitement and speculation among its dedicated fanbase. Packed with intriguing hints, this teaser sets the stage for what players can expect in the upcoming year.
As the dawn of a new season approaches, fans are treated to a wealth of information. Notably, the trailer confirms the arrival of Mel Medarda as the new champion, who returns to Runeterra after her storyline in Arcane. This marks a significant development in the League of Legends universe.
This season shifts its spotlight onto the powerful empire of Noxus, reintroducing some of the game’s legendary champions such as Darius, Elise, and Katarina. However, the spotlight predominantly shines on Vladimir and LeBlanc, both of whom are set to receive visual overhauls just in time for the new season.
Speculations Surrounding the Darkin
Fans who are familiar with League of Legends lore will recognize the Darkin, these formidable God-warriors notorious for their nefarious intentions towards Runeterra. Apart from titans like Aurelion Sol, the Darkin represent some of the most fearsome entities in the game’s universe.
Currently, four Darkin are known to exist: Aatrox, Varus, Naafiri, and Rhaast, each trapped within their weapons and unable to reclaim their former glory. The trailer features a symbol that closely resembles these weapons, igniting theories within the community that the Darkin might be returning, potentially aligning with Vlad and LeBlanc.
On platforms like the League of Legends subreddit, fans are buzzing with conjecture regarding the implications of this symbol. One user remarked, “Riot might be setting up a plot line involving LeBlanc making a deal with a Darkin to suppress Mordekaiser.” Another suggested, “It has to be a Darkin… it would also explain why Vladimir is so afraid of it… since his blood magic is a result of the Darkin right?”
If this theory holds merit, Riot Games may have two intriguing paths before them: they could either release one of the existing Darkin from their confinement or introduce a new character into the fold. The first option would allow them to leverage established characters for storytelling, but they would likely need to steer clear of Aatrox due to his destructive nature making him an unsuitable ally for LeBlanc and Vladimir.
Alternatively, Riot could opt for an original Darkin from the Legends of Runeterra roster. While Riot’s Narrative Director, Laurie Goulding, clarified back in 2022 that the Darkin Saga is not part of the official canon, integrating these characters retroactively could still enhance the narrative.
This trailer is merely a glimpse into what lies ahead. As the new season kicks off on January 9, players can anticipate a redesigned, Noxian-themed Summoner’s Rift that promises to offer fresh gameplay experiences. Clarity on the interplay of Vlad and LeBlanc will surely unfold in due time, ensuring that players remain engaged and intrigued.
