LoL Pro Player Perkz Retires After Nearly 10 Years in Competitive Gaming

Marco “Perkz”Rejkowicz is widely regarded as a legendary figure in the world of League of Legends (LoL), having played a pivotal role in shaping the golden era of G2 Esports. His unmatched skill allowed him to outperform some of the most formidable super teams from South Korea and China, marking him as a beacon of hope for Western esports fans striving for World Championship glory.

While international success for Western teams has dwindled in recent years, the G2 roster of 2019 revitalized the scene. This remarkable team not only clinched the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) title but also dominated league competitions. They notably fell just short at the Worlds 2019 finals, immortalizing their names in the annals of competitive LoL history.

Subsequent to his time with G2, Perkz sought to replicate his previous accomplishments with Cloud9 and Team Vitality, but ultimately fell short of reclaiming the heights he once reached in 2019.

Perkz Announces Retirement from Competitive League of Legends

Perkz’s journey in esports began with Gamers2 in 2015, a transformative moment in League of Legends history that predated the G2 rebranding. This era marked the inception of one of the most talented squads a Western team had ever assembled.

The pairing of Perkz and Rasmus “Caps”Winther, both exceptional mid laners, became a match made in esports heaven. Their adaptability allowed G2’s roster, which included stars like Wunder, Jankos, and Mikyx, to create an unparalleled team synergy that transcended traditional role boundaries.

As Perkz officially steps away from professional play, he has communicated that he has no intentions of returning.

In his own words, Perkz stated, “I’m retiring from playing competitively. I’m retiring at 26 years old. It sounds crazy, but it’s esports.” He later added, “The stress from competing has become overwhelming, and I no longer want to manage it. I have always dedicated myself fully to my teams, and while at times my effort wasn’t sufficient or was misguided, I gave it my all.”

Perkz expressed that the “Perkz name is dead, ”as he now embraces his new role as a father, prioritizing his family life over esports.

While contemplating his future post-retirement, Perkz intends to take a break to focus on the upcoming birth of his child and support his wife during this significant life change.

As time progresses, with only Mikyx and Caps from the illustrious G2 roster still participating in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), Europe faces a pivotal moment. It will be essential to nurture new talents to continue the legacy of one of the region’s finest teams.
