Ham Jun-ho’s Controversy Casts Shadow Over “Love Scout”
The drama series “Love Scout” has become a focal point of controversy, following revelations about its producer, Ham Jun-ho. Recent discussions resurfaced about past allegations involving assault and defamation that came to light in early 2020. On January 13, the production team confirmed these claims, issuing an apology to the public.
According to the production team’s statement, Ham Jun-ho expressed his sincere apologies to the victims involved. He confirmed that he had reached settlements and received their forgiveness after undergoing legal proceedings. Following the allegations, Ham was suspended from his role and dedicated three years to personal reflection before resuming his duties as a director.
This controversy gained momentum recently when a 2020 report by MBC Newsdesk pertaining to an unnamed SBS drama producer was revisited. It was later identified that the producer in question was, in fact, Ham Jun-ho.
Details from the 2020 report reveal that Ham Jun-ho was apprehended for causing a disturbance in Hannam-dong, where he allegedly poured soju on bystanders and engaged in physical altercations. Although the police attempted to secure an arrest warrant based on his prior criminal record, the prosecution declined, leading to Ham’s release.
The production team sought to clarify that the mentioned criminal record relates to a minor offense and does not reflect the incidents discussed in the current allegations.
“Love Scout”Ratings and Viewer Reactions
Despite the backdrop of controversy, “Love Scout” has attracted considerable viewership since its premiere in March, with its initial rating of 5.2% (Nielsen Korea) quickly escalating to double digits within two weeks. The on-screen chemistry between lead actors Han Ji-min and Lee Joon-hyuk has been a major draw for audiences.
Nevertheless, the allegations against the producer have led to a mixed reaction among viewers. Many expressed their disillusionment, stating sentiments like, “I was enjoying the show, but now I feel disheartened.” Others noted, “The actors aren’t to blame,” and “This incident will linger in my mind whenever I watch the drama.” Such reactions illustrate the challenge facing the show as it navigates the complexities of artistic separation from its creators.
