Lovely Runner reveals surprise Seo In-guk cameo — but not how you’d think

Despite not physically appearing in the scene, actor Seo In-guk receives a shoutout from Lovely Runner, showcasing the abundance of enjoyable celebrity cameos in K-dramas.

In the tenth episode of Lovely Runner, Baek In-hyuk and his band Eclipse take part in an audition for the popular televised competition known as Superstar K. A large number of individuals participate, eager to display their musical abilities and potentially become Korea’s next rising star.

Prior to Eclipse’s audition, spectators will witness a jubilant young man with the competition T-shirt covering his face, indicating that he has advanced to the competition stage. However, the most intriguing detail is the name on the contestant’s vest: “Seo In-guk.”

Although Seo does not physically appear in Lovely Runner, the actor’s cameo serves as a tribute to his real-life persona. Superstar K, a Korean competition series that debuted in 2009, has since become one of the most popular shows on cable television.

Seo’s involvement in the entertainment industry has evolved over the years. Prior to his success as an actor in popular K-dramas such as Doom at Your Service and Death’s Game, he started off as a singer. In 2009, he made a name for himself by becoming the first contestant to win Superstar K.

Following the competition, he debuted his first EP titled “Calling” and inked a contract with Story J Company, previously known as Jellyfish Entertainment. Seo continued to drop several more tracks throughout his career before making his acting debut in 2012, earning acclaim for his performance in Reply 1997.

The main concern is whether Seo’s actual involvement with Superstar K will be incorporated into Lovely Runner. As followers are aware, Eclipse has risen to fame as a band in the present timeline of Im Sol and Sun-jae.

It is possible that the K-drama will take a different turn and depict Eclipse as the winners instead. This could be due to Sun-jae’s decision not to go to America for rehab and continue his swimming career. Furthermore, with Eclipse’s original audition tape featuring Sun-jae’s singing, the competition could potentially ignite his singing career.

You can find Lovely Runner on Viki, where you can also learn about Im Sol’s time travel and discover other K-dramas to watch in 2024.
