As soon as it was released on Netflix, Lover, Stalker, Killer sparked lively debates: viewers even highlighted disturbing details that were not included in the documentary.
If you’re a fan of news stories, there’s a good chance Lover, Stalker, Killer has caught your attention. The latest Netflix documentary delves into the shocking case of Dave Kroupa, Cari Farver and Liz Golyar, shedding light on the dark side of online dating.
After his divorce, Dave decided to get into casual relationships. Little did he know that it would lead him down a terrifying path of harassment, deception and murder.
When Lover, Stalker, Killer was released, viewers scrutinized the details, and shocking revelations, absent from the Netflix documentary, surfaced on the Internet.
Lover, Stalker, Killer audience reveals sordid details left out of documentary
Lover, Stalker, Killer viewers debated some details of the case after discovering the court document from Shanna “Liz”Golyar’s 2018 appeal – including the fact that Cari’s employer received a text announcing her resignation and sending “Shanna Golyar” to replace her.
Given the limited 90 minutes it was given, the Netflix documentary could only cover a limited amount of topics. Which was inevitably a source of questions. On a dedicated Reddit thread, one user raised: “I know a documentary needs to be condensed, but it seems like there were still many moments where the police should have been called IMMEDIATELY.” He then asked: “Since they knew from the start that they were dealing with a dangerous person, why was there no manhunt?”
However, during the investigation, although evidence suggested that Golyar had killed Cari and posed as her in order to harass Dave, the police did not yet have evidence to confirm the facts – and without a body, the process is often long. And even beyond the suspicion of murder, regarding harassment, many Internet users have pointed out that it is difficult to make arrests without physical harm to the victim.
“They can harass you, call you dozens of times, follow you everywhere… But as long as there is no physical attack, they will do nothing,” one person said in response to the post. Another asked: “Why didn’t the police investigate Cari Farver’s disappearance more, especially after her car was found wiped clean of all but one fingerprint on a candy wrapper? mint?” To which another responded: “Honestly, and this is just my opinion, I think they just assumed she was a ‘crazy ex’ and decided it was on purpose.”
Were the police really powerless in the Lover, Stalker, Killer case?
However, an internet user claiming to work on news shows and to have covered the case came to suggest that the police “should have understood from the start” , sharing 2018 court of appeal documents which reveal a number of alarming details.
“Liz, posing as Cari, told Cari’s mother to let Liz into Cari’s house to collect a bedroom set that she allegedly ‘sold’ to her. Cari’s mother received a photo of a check made out to Cari from Liz via text from ‘Cari’ (Liz). Liz signed her own f**king name on the check.”
“On top of that, just days after killing her, Liz used Cari’s phone to pretend to be her and texted her work to say she was quitting, and that someone named ‘Shanna Golyar’ was going to replace her.” In other words, she used her full name as the “fictional” person intended to replace Cari.
It’s hard to prove Internet users wrong – the full court document can be found here. And these details shocked viewers of the documentary. One noted: “The text from ‘Cari’ at work saying ‘Shanna’ was going to replace her was such an incredible detail to leave out! The investigators really missed that.” For another, “This is so crazy…she used her own name? Did she also harass her mother? She is completely disturbed.”
Lover, Stalker, Killer has been available on Netflix since February 9, 2024.
