Lover Stalker Killer: what has become of Liz Golyar since the affair in the Netflix docu?

The new Netflix documentary has just been released, and viewers may be wondering what happened to one of the people involved: Liz Golyar. What has become of her since the events reported in the film?

Netflix has developed a passion for documentaries on sordid news stories: Lover, Stalker, Killer is in this same vein, retracing the events of a case that shook the United States in 2016.

And while the film has been available since February 12 on the platform, its spectators could legitimately wonder what happened to one of the people concerned: Shanna “Liz” Golyar.

Warning: the documentary is based on true events, but you may want to avoid spoilers from this article.

Lover, Stalker, Killer: Where has Liz Golyar been since the affair?

Liz Golyar is currently serving her sentence at the Nebraska Women’s Correctional Facility, having been convicted of the murder of Cari Farver in 2017. She was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Despite maintaining his innocence, Golyar’s appeal in 2018 was rejected.

Her involvement in the case was the biggest twist in Lover, Stalker, Killer, since she initially appeared as a victim. It all started when Dave started a relationship with Cari, after explaining to Liz that he wasn’t looking for anything serious after his separation from his wife, Amy Flora, with whom he has two children.

The two women meet one day when Liz returns to Dave’s house for an item that she allegedly “forgot” in her apartment. Shortly after, Cari suggests that the man move in together. Faced with his refusal, the messages became more violent. For her part, the young woman’s mother is no longer able to contact her daughter: she then reports her disappearance to the police, who first visit Dave.

Everything about the case initially suggested that Cari was harassing Dave, then Liz. Eventually, the reality is uncovered: Shanna “Liz” Golyar actually murdered Cari Farver.

In 2016, Liz was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter. Although she maintained her innocence, she was convicted in August 2017. In addition to her life sentence for the murder, she was sentenced to 18 to 20 years for arson.

Lover, Stalker, Killer has been available on Netflix since February 12, 2024.
