Lyft customer’s terrifying ride goes viral as driver ignores her destination entirely

In fear for her safety, she ran to reach safety.

A young woman, aged 24 and residing in Miami, took to TikTok to issue a warning to Lyft and Uber users to prioritize their safety. She shared her experience of feeling threatened during her recent Lyft ride.

According to the TikTok user ‘karinaalegre_’, she requested a Lyft ride after a night out with friends and paid for the service. Despite entering her home address as the destination, she ended up being taken to the Miami International Airport.

The woman remembers feeling uneasy as the Lyft driver took her on a route she was not familiar with. She became fearful and called a friend, expressing her concerns about the driver’s chosen path.

The woman had also inquired in Spanish about the issue with her GPS to the Lyft driver. However, when the driver remained silent, she made the decision to immediately exit the vehicle and flee for her safety.

The woman claimed that the Lyft driver began to “pursue”her in her car and reassured her that she was in good hands because of her “four children.”Fearing for her safety, the woman promptly threatened to contact the authorities and quickly sought help from an airport security guard to report the incident.

Thankfully, the woman arrived home unharmed despite her fear of being a victim of human trafficking. The security guard also informed her that the area where she was left is known for instances of human trafficking.

Following the woman’s post on TikTok, it has garnered 5.7M views and the number continues to increase. Lyft also addressed her claims by stating, “We apologize for this incident and are relieved to hear that you are safe. We have located your ride and filed a report. We will stay in contact with you to gather more information.”

This is not an isolated incident where a Lyft passenger has felt uncomfortable with their driver. An individual in December 2022 reported that their Lyft driver abruptly canceled the ride and aggressively instructed them to leave the car before driving away.

In February 2023, a customer felt extremely uncomfortable when an Uber driver “wiped”their hands after assisting with putting her wheelchair in the car.

Despite the usefulness of rideshares such as Lyft and Uber, it is clear that customers may still find themselves in unsafe or uncomfortable situations.
