On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the official website for the Maebashi Witches anime was launched. The website announced that the series will be released in April 2025 and also premiered its first promotional video. Additionally, the website disclosed the main staff for the show, a key visual, and the opening theme song to be sung by the anime’s main cast.
The upcoming television anime series, produced by Sunrise Studios, will be an original work with no source material being adapted. Similarly, Sunrise is recognized for creating the original Maebashi Witches anime, with the television series itself being considered the “original work”in this context.
Maebashi Witches: A Look at the Upcoming Anime Series
The leading stars of the Maebashi Witches anime are Sakura Kasuga, Hinano Sakikawa, Rena Motomura, Haruka Minami, Honami Momose, and Tomokazu Sugita. Kasuga portrays the role of Yuina Akagi, a lively first-year high school student with a passion for photography and capturing raw emotions. Sakikawa brings to life Azu Niisato, a fashion and beauty enthusiast. Motomura plays the character of Kyoka Kitahara, a privileged student attending the most prestigious high school in the prefecture.
Minami portrays the role of Choco Mitsumata, a lively and bubbly girl, while Momose takes on the character of Mai Kamiizumi, a pragmatic girl who is mindful of others’ opinions. Additionally, Sugita voices the enigmatic Keroppe, a mystical familiar who recruited the five girls as apprentice witches. As the April 2025 release date for the anime approaches, it is anticipated that more cast members will be revealed.
All of the cast members mentioned above, except for Sugita, will be participating in the performance of the opening theme song, titled “Sugosugi Maebashi Witches!” or “Super Amazing Maebashi Witches!” The five girls, referred to as the Maebashi Witches within the series, will likely be credited under this name. The lyrics for the theme song were written by producer Tsunku, while the composition was done by TORIENA.
Sunrise studios is recognized as the creator of the original work for the Maebashi Witches anime. The series is directed by Junichi Yamamoto at Bandai Namco Filmworks and PROJECT MBW studios. Erika Yoshida is responsible for the series scripts, while Nozomi Tachibana is tasked with designing the animated characters, using Inami Yu’s original character designs as a basis.
