Major Aim Assist Nerf in Apex Legends Season 22

The developers of Apex Legends have officially announced that aim assist will be nerfed in Season 22, as they have deemed it necessary to introduce balance adjustments for players using controllers.

The amount of aim assist for controller players in PC lobbies is being decreased by approximately 25%. This change does not affect console lobbies. However, if you join a PC player on a console or use a controller on a PC, you will experience a decrease in assistance.

With the 120hz update, adjustments were made to controller aim assist, but there have been discussions about implementing a more substantial nerf for several seasons now. This is a contentious issue, and PC players have been advocating for balance changes in mixed input lobbies for a while.

At the press conference for the upcoming season, the developers indicated that the alteration would enhance “competitive integrity.”In other words, Lead Game Designer Eric Canavese stated, “Aim assist is overpowering in PC lobbies…thus, we will be decreasing its effectiveness.”

Despite arguments from some members of the community, it is widely believed that aim assist on controllers has given players an advantage over those using a mouse and keyboard. This is evidenced by the fact that even professional players on m&k, such as ImperialHal, have chosen to switch to controller for the Apex Legends Global Series due to its effectiveness. This highlights the significant impact aim assist has had.

Despite facing a nerf in PC lobbies, Canavese emphasized that “aim assist will always remain,”highlighting its crucial role in assisting controller players and bridging the gap between different input methods.

After thorough analysis of data, testing of various solutions, and fine-tuning of adjustments, the developers came to the decision to implement the nerf. The aim was to ensure fairness in the game. With the launch of Season 22 on August 6th, players will have the opportunity to experience the changes to aim assist and we will have to wait and see how it is received.

Although the nerf may significantly affect your gameplay, it is important to ensure that you have the best controller settings for Apex Legends to optimize your comfort and performance. Additionally, make sure to set up your audio properly for the new E-District map to achieve the best possible experience.
