Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 seems ready to surpass one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s most intriguing achievements.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is an incredibly expansive game, featuring a multitude of characters to encounter, romantic companions, and decisions to be made. Consequently, it boasts a substantial script.
In a community update on Steam prior to its release, Larian Studios proudly announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 contained approximately 2,000,000 words in its dialogue. As a result, the game set a new record for the longest video game script of all time at that time.
Despite currently holding the record, it won’t be for much longer. According to Creative Director of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Dan Vávra, the script size for the highly anticipated RPG has been revealed in a recent post on X. And from what he shared, it’s an absolute mammoth of a script.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s scope should feel familiar to Baldur’s Gate 3 fans.
“During a discussion with our lead designer Prokop Jirsa yesterday, we were calculating the amount of content we have written for KCD2. Vávra then posed the question to his followers, asking them to guess the size of the script. To everyone’s surprise, he revealed that it consists of 2,200,000 words.”
According to Creative Director Vávra, he provided some quick calculations that showed the relative size of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s script in comparison to other forms of media. He estimated that the game’s chunky script is equivalent to 11,000 standard screenwriting pages, 100 scripts for a typical two-hour movie, or approximately 25 average novels.
Despite its initial success, Baldur’s Gate 3 has faced some challenges in terms of breaking records. The game has been surpassed on Steam’s all-time concurrent player charts by popular titles such as Palworld and Black Myth: Wukong. Additionally, it is expected to lose its longest script record when Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 releases on February 11, 2025.
Despite this, fans of the game should not be disappointed. If the script size of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is any indication, we can expect another expansive RPG to immerse ourselves in.
