Major Dungeon Overhaul in Destiny 2 Eliminates Significant Issue

Destiny 2’s revamped content model is set to begin in 2025, featuring a significant change that will affect how players gain access to upcoming Dungeons.

The next chapter of Destiny 2, referred to as Codename: Frontiers, is officially launching in 2025. Bungie has confirmed that Frontiers will include two major expansions; Codename: Apollo is scheduled for release in the summer, followed by Codename: Behemoth in winter.

In a Developer Insight published in September 2024, the team outlined several significant modifications that will accompany this content revamp.

Players engaging with the first expansion of each year can anticipate a new raid, while the second expansion will introduce a brand-new Dungeon along with an “expanded reward offering,”as detailed in the announcement.

Since the Dungeon will be part of the Behemoth expansion, Bungie has stated that “there will no longer be a separate Dungeon Key” for access.

Regarding the expanded reward offering, the team intends to provide complete weapon and armor sets that are “on par with raids.”

This change represents a significant shift from the traditional access methods for Dungeons in Destiny 2. Previously, players could obtain Dungeon Keys by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of an expansion or through other channels such as the Eververse Store.

For example, the Final Shape Dungeon Key provided access to Dungeons in Episodes Revenant and Heresy.

The accessibility of Destiny 2’s 2025 Dungeon to all players who own the Behemoth expansion will be beneficial for those who have questioned the pricing of such content. However, it remains uncertain whether these adjustments will positively impact the struggling shooter.

Notably, less than a year after a significant reduction in its workforce, Bungie announced the layoff of over 200 employees in July 2024. This development occurred just weeks following the release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape, which itself initiated a new phase of content updates for the long-running game.
