Major Exploration Changes Uncovered in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Leak

A leaked dev diary for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows reveals how the development team has advanced the exploration system in this installment.

Continuing the tradition of engaging with their audience, the developers of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows have created dev diaries to provide insights into the upcoming game features.

The first video highlighted the contrasting playstyles of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. Interestingly, a second video has emerged before its official release, discussing elements such as weather changes, brand-new base-building mechanics, and more.

One intriguing detail shared is an enhancement in exploration between the series entries. AC: Odyssey marked the beginning of a shift toward dynamic exploration, and it appears that Shadows elevates this concept further.

According to one developer, Shadows will “let go of the player’s hands a bit.” Similar to Odyssey and Valhalla, reaching high points will unveil points of interest in the distance, marked with question marks.

Moreover, the “war for information” will take form through the character’s network, enabling them to send scouts to investigate objectives in specific areas.

The video illustrates an instance where Naoe instructs a scout to look into reports of rogue Samurai troubling citizens in Kyoto.

This feature bears resemblance to Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, featuring Ezio recruiting Assassins to aid him in battle. Black Flag similarly introduced a mechanic allowing players to dispatch ships on missions to gather resources.

For Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, the developers aspire to immerse players in an “exploration mindset” through these innovative additions.

Additionally, the expansive game world is filled with mysteries, often prompting Naoe and Yasuke to deviate from the main path, discovering temples, shrines, and hidden caves along the way.

The developers have also crafted various gameplay activities designed to promote exploration, progression, and skill acquisition among players.

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is set to launch on November 15, 2024.
