Major Star Wars character will not return for Mandalorian and Grogu movie and everyone is mad

The Mandalorian’s highly anticipated big-screen debut has fans buzzing, but the film will unfortunately not feature a crucial Star Wars character: Boba Fett.

The highly anticipated return of Boba Fett in Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian was a major event, leading many to believe that a spin-off was inevitable. However, the lukewarm response to The Book of Boba Fett may have dampened this excitement and it seems that he will not be appearing in the 2026 installment of The Mandalorian & Grogu.

According to ScreenRant, Temuera Morrison, the actor who portrays Boba Fett, stated at Fan Expo Chicago that he has not received any notification for The Mandalorian & Grogu and believes that the character of Boba Fett is currently not involved.

“To be completely honest, I am still awaiting a phone call. It seems as though we have been put on hold for the time being. Perhaps we will be taken off hold at a later time,”Morrison informed the audience.

Despite Boba Fett’s status as a fan-favorite character, many fans were disappointed with his return in The Book of Boba Fett, which they perceived as another setback for the character. Despite not appearing on the big screen since Return of the Jedi, Boba Fett remains a beloved character among fans. However, his highly anticipated return in The Book of Boba Fett was met with negative reception and did not live up to fans’ expectations.

One fan questioned why Disney did such a poor job with Boba Fett that he wasn’t even included in the movie, despite the fact that it featured a character who was essentially a copy of Boba Fett and was already friends with him within the storyline.

“Although I am not a fan of the Book of Boba Fett, it saddens me to know that Temuera Morrison is aware that a large portion of the audience did not enjoy it,”another person chimed in.

Despite this, it could be logical for the character to not be present. After all, Boba Fett was recently seen taking on the role of crime lord in Tattooine, filling the void created by Jabba the Hutt’s absence. Additionally, he did not appear in Season 3 of The Mandalorian.

Although plot details for The Mandalorian and Grogu are still unknown, footage shown at D23 suggests that the story may revisit Hoth. It is possible that Fett’s absence could be explained by his involvement in other events happening in the galaxy far, far away during the film.

The release date for The Mandalorian & Grogu in theaters is May 22, 2026. In the meantime, take a look at our guide on how to watch the entire Star Wars timeline in chronological order, or browse our list of the top Star Wars quotes and indulge in some nostalgic moments.
