MAMAMOO’s Hwasa opened up about her challenging past with her former agency and recounted how she handled the strict diet demands from the CEO.
On September 17, the K-pop sensation appeared on “The K-star Next Door,”where she shared insights about her confrontation with the CEO during her trainee days.
The show’s host, Jonathan, sparked the conversation by mentioning Hwasa’s nickname, “K-Gangster Wife,”noting that she was known for “beating up boys since grade school.”
Jonathan was clearly surprised after reading her profile, but Hwasa clarified that at that time, even a simple “Hey”could lead to being labeled a gangster wife.
She further explained that she would stand up for girls when boys were unkind. Interestingly, it was actually her two older sisters who were the real “gangster wives.”
Hwasa recounted a high school incident where a boy physically attacked her, prompting one of her sisters to retaliate.
“He got beat up pretty badly,”said Hwasa, sharing a laugh with Jonathan.
Jonathan then jokingly asked, “I expected maturity, but you ended up venting your frustrations on your boss through email?”
The “Maria”singer revealed that she initially weighed 60kg and was ordered by the company to drop down to 48kg.
Despite her efforts, Hwasa only managed to lose weight to 49kg. Because she didn’t meet the required weight, her then-CEO considered firing her, which upset her greatly.
“After a confrontation with him, I wrote a song reflecting my feelings, titled ‘My Heart.’ He expected an apology,”Hwasa commented.
To Jonathan’s surprise, she added, “He actually ended up liking me more after that.”
Jonathan noted that it’s rare for a female trainee to express such bold sentiments, to which Hwasa replied that she thought it would be “cool”to do so, earning her some well-deserved accolades from the MC.
