Man Charged for Assaulting Dollar Store Customers with Pokémon Cards

A man in Georgia has been arrested following an unusual incident where he reportedly attempted to undress in public and engaged in a bizarre attack using Pokémon cards at a local Dollar General store.

While instances of theft involving valuable Pokémon cards are not uncommon, this case marked a surprising escalation, with the cards being used as a projectile rather than a collectible.

On December 11, authorities in Rome, Georgia were alerted about a man repeatedly entering and exiting a convenience store while taking fountain drinks without paying. Upon arrival, officers were informed by a store employee that the man had since left for a nearby Dollar General.

Man Arrested After Pokémon Card Attack

Upon locating Grant Timothy Wentz, police reported that he exhibited erratic behavior, speaking incoherently and making no logical sense. Employees in the Dollar General indicated that Grant was behaving unusually—yelling at customers and throwing random items.

Among the items he hurled was a pack of Pokémon cards, which allegedly struck a store associate in the neck. The officer who arrested Grant indicated that he showed no signs of drug use at the time. However, during transportation to the county jail, he continued to ramble nonsensically and kicked the divider and door panel inside the police vehicle.

As a result of his actions, Grant was charged with several offenses, including disorderly conduct, being a pedestrian under the influence, and simple battery due to the alleged attack with the Pokémon cards.

This peculiar incident is not entirely unprecedented. In 2023, a similar case made headlines when a man received a life sentence after fatally assaulting his neighbor with a combination of Pokémon cards and a wooden object. These occurrences shed light on the unexpected ways collectible items can become weapons in moments of extreme disturbance.
