On May 16th, the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Appeal Division 5-2 (Presiding Judges Kim Yong-joong, Kim Ji-sun, and So Byung-jin) confirmed the one-year prison sentence of A (29), who had been charged with violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc.

A was arrested and charged for impersonating members of BTS by using his mobile phone to approach a music producer and obtain military service information and unreleased guide tracks.

Specifically, during the months of August and September 2022, it was discovered that A had been impersonating BTS’s Suga (whose real name is Min Yoon-gi) and managed to obtain unreleased guide tracks through conversations with producer B.

During November of that same year, A posed as B in order to reach out to Suga, collecting details about the planning for the album release, projected release dates, and schedules for military service.

In addition, it was discovered that A had pretended to be BTS’s V (real name Kim Tae-hyung) in order to obtain more than ten unreleased guide tracks from a different producer.

The initial court trial resulted in A being sentenced to prison, with the court citing the potential for his actions to cause significant financial and social harm to members of BTS and their company.

The appellate court upheld the first trial’s judgment and dismissed the appeals from both the defendant and the prosecutor.

Additionally, it has been reported that A, recognized as a music producer, had previously been involved in creating songs for well-known idol groups.
