Ever since it was released in 2023, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has revolved around the disappearance of Maria Flores. The game’s opening scroll recounts the events and sheds light on how Maria’s sister, Ana Flores, and her friends fell into the hands of the Slaughter family. However, this narrative takes a turn with the recent announcement of a new Victim. On June 11, 2024, Maria Flores will join the game as a new playable character, alongside the new Killer, Hands.
The new trailer depicting Virginia’s arrival at the Family House to search for her son, Jesse, after finding his car on the property, also includes an announcement. Although Virginia does not find Jesse, she does come across Maria. Unfortunately, Virginia has a gruesome encounter with Hands, while Maria showcases her abilities during some one-on-one time with Grandpa.
TCM Gives Maria Flores a Unique Ability
Maria’s character in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is well-established through her backstory and abilities. She was kidnapped by Johnny while in the Texas countryside, causing her loved ones to fear the worst. However, Maria’s survival was largely due to Grandpa’s unexpected fondness for her. This is evident in her ability, Sweet Talk, which causes Grandpa’s Sonar to focus on the Family rather than the Victims.

Similar to other abilities for Victims, Sweet Talk has the potential to be enhanced and adjusted for different outcomes. These enhancements include the ability to highlight Family members near Grandpa, lower Grandpa’s level by one, and decrease cooldown times. Additionally, Maria will come equipped with new Perks, such as Pep Talk, which showcases her determination by enabling her to regain health after using Sweet Talk on Grandpa – a risky move.
Maria Flores’ Arrival Sparks Debate Among Fans
Despite the excitement of a significant portion of the TCM community, there is a debate about Ana’s status as the final girl, as Maria defied all odds and survived in Leatherface’s basement. This raises questions about how Maria’s appearance will impact the established lore, including smaller details such as Ana’s famous line, “This is for Maria!”Some players are concerned that Maria’s survival means the end of new content, but Gun Interactive has not indicated this to be the case. In fact, the recent discovery of Jesse’s car on the Family House property by Virginia hints at a potential new plot focus for future updates.
