The Creep Tapes: A Bold New Chapter Begins
Shudder is set to launch an exciting new series titled The Creep Tapes, a television spinoff derived from the chilling cinematic duo, Creep and Creep 2. If the streaming service has its way, this series aims to captivate audiences across a staggering 100 episodes.
From Film to Series: A Decade in the Making
The original films, crafted by talented filmmakers Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice, burst onto the scene approximately ten years ago, introducing viewers to a terrifying narrative that quickly garnered a dedicated fanbase. Following the success of the first film, the duo produced an equally thrilling sequel. Since then, fans have eagerly awaited more, until Shudder’s recent announcement reignited excitement by unveiling The Creep Tapes, which debuted today, November 15.
Creative Independence and a Vision for the Future
In a recent post-screening Q&A, Mark Duplass shared insights into the show’s conception. Reflecting on their past experiences with Netflix, he stated, “We made the first two films for Netflix and those were great experiences, and they gave us a lot of independence. But when it came time to make the show, we really felt that we wanted to go bananas.”
Duplass emphasized their desire for creative freedom, noting, “We specifically went out and made it independently, on our own. We shot all six episodes first and then sought a distributor bold enough to embrace our vision. That’s when we found the perfect match in Shudder and AMC, who were thrilled about the project and expressed interest in producing 100 episodes with us.”
Looking Ahead: Endless Possibilities
Despite the daunting prospect of producing a full season of episodes, Duplass, while chuckling, boundlessly hinted at the upcoming adventures: “There are 94 more episodes to come!” He demonstrated an abundance of creative ideas, mentioning, “I was walking around my neighborhood and called Patrick, saying, ‘We’ve got all these great ideas for Creep 3. What if we just make them all into a TV show? We can produce a multitude of stories.’”
Series Premiere and Release Schedule
The premiere of The Creep Tapes commenced today with the release of the first two episodes on Shudder, with subsequent episodes slated for a weekly release thereafter. Fans can look forward to a thrilling ride filled with suspense and terrifying twists as the series unfolds.
